When Jaylen* first came to his YFC ministry site, he didn’t know who Jesus was. No one in his family is a believer, and home hasn’t always been easy. Now, two years later, Jaylen says it was the YFC leaders who helped him understand who Jesus is and he’s said “yes” to following Christ.
Since becoming a Christian, Jaylen has had an increased desire to go deeper in his relationship with Jesus. In a recent small group session, he told his leader that he often hears her talk about listening to God but wasn’t sure how to experience that for himself. His leader took the opportunity to guide the group through a time of quiet prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to speak. Afterward, Jaylen shared that God placed the word “peace” on his heart, a powerful sign of how God is shaping his story.
Jaylen continues to take steps to put his faith into action with new opportunities to lead and serve. He was invited to join the new Emerging Community Leader program, designed for students who want to go deeper in their walk with Christ. Each week, the group meets for Bible study, reads leadership books, and takes on service projects to put what they’re learning into action. By participating at his ministry site and in Emerging Community Leaders, Jaylen is learning to live out his faith by showing God’s love at his ministry site, in his school, and at home.
