The Power of Presence

story

Cory and Rebecca, a husband-and-wife team of volunteers at our City Life ministry in Hawarden, have had an extraordinary impact on teens for many years. Each brings unique strengths to their ministry – Cory loves to speak with our students about car mechanics, and Rebecca is always ready to engage in meaningful conversation. Together, however, they shine Christ’s love even brighter, specifically with a student we will refer to as John.

Cory and Rebecca met John through a small group they led at our Teen Center. Over time, they built a strong and authentic bond, though it hasn’t always been without its challenges. There have been periods when John hasn’t reached out to Cory and Rebecca, but other times when he’s contacted them regularly, particularly when navigating tough mental health situations in his life. Through everything, Cory and Rebecca have remained steadfast in their love and support. They have hosted John for holiday meals, attended birthday parties, and invested in building a relationship with his parents. At times, John has reached out for advice on various areas of his life, and Cory and Rebecca have been there to offer guidance rooted in Christ’s love. John recently began thinking about going to college and even asked Cory and Rebecca to visit one with him!

Cory and Rebecca’s commitment to John and many other teens in their community is a beautiful reflection of God’s constant and unconditional love. We are so grateful that God has blessed our ministries with incredible volunteers who demonstrate dedication, care, and love through every season.
