Have you and your family ever put a puzzle together? Each person finds different pieces and puts them in the right spots. Then finally, the picture is complete!
That is similar to how it is for us with a student and how we are building an authentic, Christ-sharing relationship (ACSR). Sometimes it takes several leaders to hear pieces of a student’s story to start to reveal or build that relationship.
We are seeing the pieces be revealed in one of our newer student’s and we are all diving into this students’ life, listening and asking questions.
The pieces of the puzzle we have so far are that the students’ parents are divorced and seem to give them free rein around the community to come and go as they please so this student is rarely at home or sleeps in their own bed at night. Their possessions are frequently left at others’ homes and then destroyed by other people. There is a pattern of possibly dangerous and risky behavior.
Low self-esteem is another puzzle piece that is slowly completing more of the picture of who they are. This person doesn’t like themself and hasn’t realized that they were made in the image of God. They have been known to ask for their picture to be removed, covered up, or destroyed. One specific leader has been able to have deeper conversations with this student and we are continuing to learn more about who this person is and what has shaped them into the person they are today.
We look forward to the day when we can say that this person said “yes” to Jesus, until then we continue praying for this person and we continue to ask hard questions and walk through life with them.
